Telegram Web: Browser Sign-In, Files, and Session Safety

Use Telegram in a browser and understand how Web differs from an installed desktop client.

Telegram Web is a browser-based route to an account, not a Windows, macOS, or Linux installation file. It can be useful when you need a conversation on a computer without installing Telegram Desktop. Telegram lists WebA and WebK separately in its applications directory; use the current destination provided there and inspect the address in your browser before entering any code.

Decide between a browser tab and a desktop application

Choose Web for a browser session when you do not want to install a local program or when a managed computer does not allow software installation. Choose Telegram Desktop when you prefer an installed client and its computer-focused file workflow. Neither choice turns an Android APK into a desktop installer. Availability and behavior can differ between clients and releases, so compare the feature you need rather than assuming identical menus.

A browser session depends on browser storage, profiles, and sign-out behavior. On a shared computer, use a private profile only as one precaution; it is not a guarantee that nobody can observe the screen or obtain account access. Follow the organization’s browser policy where applicable.

Start a session at a verified address

Navigate from Telegram’s own applications listing or another trusted bookmark. Check the domain before scanning a QR code or entering a sign-in code. A search advertisement or lookalike page can imitate a login screen. Telegram’s FAQ describes account security and active sessions; no community administrator, support bot, or third-party page should receive your login code or two-step verification password.

If you are already signed in on a phone, follow the current instructions shown by the legitimate Web client to approve a session. Afterward, review the account’s active sessions on a trusted device. Do not assume that closing a browser tab always ends the session.

Understand what conversations should appear

Ordinary cloud chats can be available across signed-in devices. Telegram’s FAQ explains that Secret Chats are device-specific and are not stored in the Telegram cloud. If a conversation is absent in the browser, confirm the account and the chat type before repeatedly signing out and in. The multi-device guide walks through that distinction for computer users.

Check whether an absent group was archived, left, or accessed through a different account. Search from the Web client and compare with a trusted phone. A missing notification alone does not mean the underlying chat is missing.

Handle downloads and notifications in the browser

A file opened from Web may go through the browser’s own download handling. Check the browser’s download list and the actual saved path rather than assuming Telegram Desktop’s storage setting controls it. Inspect the file and sender before running anything downloaded from a chat. For installed-client storage and cache, use the Desktop files guide.

Browser notifications require both a chat-level choice and the browser or operating system’s permission. A muted group remains silent even if browser permission is granted. If you need steady alerts for an active community, compare the browser behavior with the installed app using the community guide.

End access when the computer is no longer yours

Sign out through Telegram Web when finished on a borrowed device, and check active sessions from a trusted device. Clearing browser history is not a substitute for ending an account session. If you suspect a code was entered on a lookalike site, secure the account from a trusted client and review unknown sessions promptly.

This page describes the browser route; it does not offer a downloadable Web package. For a platform-specific installer decision, use the Windows, macOS, or Linux pages linked from the Desktop guide. The site’s own download buttons should always be judged by the destination and file actually configured, not by this page’s name.
